We were tasked with helping to transport relatives to visit indigenous students studying in Queensland and attend a women’s rugby match.

Flying families from remote islands to NRL game

The charity arm of the North Queensland Cowboys rugby league team, which runs a boarding house for indigenous students studying in Queensland, asked us to help arrange for some of the pupils’ families to visit. The group of 65 relatives were travelling to the mainland from several of the country’s remotest islands, with plans to attend the facility’s annual NAIDOC Week celebrations and cheer on the Cowboys women’s team in their first home game of the season. We set about coordinating a solution for this complex request.

Our Solution

Route: Remote Islands > Horn Island > Townsville > Horn Island > Remote Islands

Aircraft: Dash 8-400

Everything needed to be meticulously planned to ensure there were no delays preventing the group from watching the rugby match.

Leveraging our relationships with local airlines, we arranged numerous private jet charters to fly passengers from remote islands to Horn Island in the Torres Strait. The entire group then boarded a larger charter aircraft for the last leg of the journey to Townsville.

Two of our representatives were on-hand to oversee the operation in Horn Island, managing several last-minute passenger name changes and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

The Finer Details

Rapid Response: We coordinated over 25 private jet charters within 48 hours of the client tasking us with this complicated brief.

Local Knowledge: One of our representatives used to live on Horn Island and is very familiar with the region, giving us the expertise to handle any logistical issues that arose.
