Getting middle-school students home despite a hurricane
It seemed like a straightforward request when a middle school in Florida asked us to help transport 165 students on a trip to Washington and back. But when Hurricane Milton touched down in Florida just hours before the group were due to return, it was all hands on deck to ensure the students made it home on time.
Our Solution
Route: Miami > Baltimore > Miami
Aircraft: A320-200
Our experienced team knew an aircraft charter was the most convenient solution for the students. As well as enabling the large group to travel together, it saved time by getting them to Washington in under three hours compared to 18 hours by road. Contacting local operators, we sourced a narrow-body jet with space for the passengers and their luggage.
We sent two representatives to welcome the group at the airport, working with ground handlers to direct their buses to the private terminal and helping to load their luggage onto the plane. They also accompanied the outbound flight to ensure everything ran smoothly.
When Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida shortly before the return flight, we stayed in constant contact with the operator and kept the school coordinator updated on the status of the charter. The group arrived back in Miami with minimal delays.
