Sochi International Airport, which is sometimes referred to as Alder Airport, is the main airport serving the resort city of Sochi. The terminal building is one of the largest in Russia, measuring a total of 62,000 square meters. The airport played a crucial role during the winter Olympics held in Sochi in 2014, acting as the main gateway into the area for both spectators and participants. It will once again be an airport of importance during the FIFA 2018 Russian World Cup as a gateway for football fans travelling to the Sochi Stadium, which is 17km from the airport. The terminal replaced an older passenger building in 2007. The airport is located approximately 29km south of Sochi city centre, and can be reached by either road or rail.

The airport has two runways which are capable of accepting all aircraft types. Staff at the airport do not speak English, and arrivals and departures at Sochi International Airport are controlled.
